Sony Center Conversion
Sections of the Sony Center in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz are being adapted to cater to changing customer requirements.
The entrance area on the ground floor was connected to the 1st floor by a seating and stair landscape and now serves as a communal meeting point. Within the framework of the structural engineering LP1 – LP5, all structural measures to modify the shell structure were implemented in this context.
Reconstruction Measures due to Changed Utilisation Requirements
Two larger interventions are set to repurpose the site’s existing IMAX theatre: The aboveground IMAX auditorium will be converted into a food court with offices spaces above, and the auditoria beneath the courtyard will be turned into a gym. Smaller alterations will also be made to various individual rental units.
Werner Sobek already engineered large parts of the original Sony Center back in the 1990s. We now provide structural engineering services as well as facade engineering for the refurbishment.
