MACO – Machabäerstraße

Caspar Schmitz-Morkramer is modernising the MACO office building in Cologne’s city centre – Werner Sobek is responsible for circular engineering and sustainability consulting on the project. The building, constructed in 1927 in the Kunibertsviertel district, is being gutted, extended and refurbished as sustainably as possible.

Historic Building with Modern Technology

The modernisation will create flexible and versatile work areas with multifunctional meeting rooms, event spaces as well as catering and outdoor areas. The extension of the building, including columns and beams, is being realised with cross-laminated timber (CLT). The facade will be constructed from timber, brick and the existing facade.
