Campus Melaten

The project is a part of the expansion of the RWTH Aachen Campus: It is designed to offer experts from industry and scientists from diverse universities office, laboratory and research facilities. The complex is composed of two building parts: an L-plan, six storey office building above a partial cellar as well as a single-storey research building with laboratory areas for conducting experiments. The office buildings are designed to provide the highest levels of variability and flexibility. A conventional steel-reinforced concrete construction forms the load-bearing structural system. Supports and walls transmit vertical loads, while the walls of the stairway and building services cores stiffen the construction. A punctuated facade forms the building envelope. Expansive glass facades are installed at the foyer and concourse connecting the two parts of the building.
