Brücke hinter der Fabrik in Hönningen

Bridge Behind the Factory

Werner Sobek and engineering firm Doser Kempen Krause  (DKK) have been tasked with planning a new bridge over the river Ahr in the German municipality of Hönningen. The beautiful new structure is being built to replace its predecessor, which was destroyed when the river flooded back in July 2021. Werner Sobek is responsible for object and structural engineering on the project.

An Understated Gem in Idyllic Rural Surroundings

Upon completion, the gently arching steel bridge will span a distance of 48m across the river Ahr without the aid of intermediate supports. The main structure will be built using brown Corten steel, an exceptionally durable material that requires little maintenance.

The Bridge behind the Factory has been designed for pedestrians, cyclists and scenic traffic and will connect the centre of Hönningen with managed forests and agricultural lands beyond the river and the Ahr cycle path.
