Riederwald Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge

This overbridge for pedestrians and cyclists crosses a planned new section of Federal Highway A66 and connects the Seckbach and Bergen-Enkheim districts of Frankfurt am Main with the Fechenheimer Wald local recreation area. The integral bridge structure traverses the highway in a single span that measures 61,60 m in length. Set deep in the ground on bored pile foundations, the bridge’s two abutments are extended by the addition of reinforced concrete cantilevers that run in the same direction as the pedestrian and cycle tracks. Consisting of two lateral hollow sections with an orthotropic deck in between, the bridge’s centrally located steel cross section is joined to the cantilevers with rigid connections.
