Burda Car Park
The circular multi-storey car park building with a diameter of 60 metres locates in Offenburg/Germany. The central area contains the access ramps for cars as well as the pedestrian access facilities. The five levels provide parking spaces for 474 cars. The semi-transparent rope façade envelops the building like a veil. It consists of prefabricated vertical rope elements to which lengths of round timber are fixed by means of standardised holders. At the level of each deck floor the ropes are stabilised horizontally by articulated stays which reduce the deformation of the façade under wind pressure. Apart from the unusual façade design, it is the compactness of this naturally ventilated car park building that deserves to be noted.
