The Libyan Sports City consists of ten sport stadiums located near Tripoli. The complex was built in 1967/68 and is still in use. However, the condition of most stadiums is poor and they need to be renovated. Therefore Werner Sobek was asked to plan the refurbishment of five of these stadiums from a structural point of view. All structural elements were to be checked on their safety for use. Any structure that was in doubt or turned out to be unsafe was to be marked for reinforcement or replacement. Safety was first priority. The stadiums are refurbished step by step without any major interruption of general usability. In addition to this refurbishment, Werner Sobek also planned new roof structures providing shade for the spectators. In order to achieve a uniform appearance of all stadiums, the roof structures as well as the façade structures were designed using the same major grid.
