Borusan Istanbul

The sales headquarters of the Borusan Oto BMW dealership near Istanbul covers a total area of 59,700 m2 and houses servicing workshops for various manufacturers and showrooms for new and used vehicles. The building complex consists of two multi-storey blocks that stand parallel to one another. Werner Sobek designed a new facade for both buildings. Corporate Identity guidelines from a range of vehicle manufacturers – including BMW, MINI, Jaguar and Land Rover – had to be taken into consideration during the design process. The panel facade for the southern block was developed according to the manufacturers’ specifications. A textile membrane is being used to clad the upper storeys of the north building’s impressive glass facade that runs along the main street. Measuring up to 80 m in length and 10 m in width, the sections of this membrane combine with the post and beam facade below to create an exciting visual contrast in juxtaposition with the coarse concrete texture of the building’s base storey.
