We Need to Build with Less Reinforced Concrete
Concrete is a mixture of water, aggregate and cement. It is inexpensive and can be formed into almost any shape, especially when steel reinforcement is used. Other positive aspects are its high sound insulation and fire protection qualities. However, the use of concrete as a material has one major disadvantage: its production generates immense CO2 emissions. Therefore, we must use concrete more carefully and employ it above all where its quality cannot be achieved by other building materials.
Until the end of October 2022, the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf is showing the exhibition “Werner Sobek: 17 Theses“. It deals with the ecological impact and responsibility of the building industry.
