Artwork „Telos Tales“ by Alicja Kwade
Working with art and artists brings special challenges and differs significantly from regular day-to-day engineering work. The art project “Telos Tales” by artist Alicja Kwade presented a challenging and unique task in the field of art engineering.
At the center of the work are three large-scale sculptures in which powder-coated steel frames flow into amorphously shaped cast bronze elements that resemble branches. The architectural, linear structures gradually transform into organic forms, creating the impression that one material is dissolving into the other.
High demands on materiality, design, and technical implementation
A particularly characteristic feature is the very slender construction, which was accompanied by high requirements in terms of materiality, design, and technical implementation. The greatest challenge in the creation process was the preparation of the cast bronze. Due to its inhomogeneity and the fluctuating material properties caused by the manufacturing process, careful planning was required. Added to this was the complex design of the structural details, as no joints were to be visible in the finished state.
The scope of services included the complete engineering of the sculptures in collaboration with the artist – from conceptual development to detailed planning.
Alicja Kwade’s installation “Telos Tales” will be on display at the PACE Gallery in New York City (US) until August 2025.
